Climate

A critical influence on the style and quality of wine. Cool climate areas such as Germany, Champagne and Oregon are at the coolest limits for grape ripening and are good for reserved, elegant styles. In warm-climate areas vines ripen easily but often need to be irrigated. Warm-climate wines are rich and high in alcohol. Red grapes generally need a warmer climate than white grapes.
